Classification of blogs & opinion about the most appropriate classification approach

There are uncountable amount of blogs in the world today, all of which are classified into variety types of blogs in both the content wise and the styles used to present those contents.

Simons (2008) demonstrated the classification of different types of blogs to categories of pamphleteering, digest, advocacy, popular mechanics, exhibition, gatewatcher, diary, advertisement and the news blogs. Moreover Simons (2008) then came up with the analysis and furthermore explanations of each category. This type of classifying many different types of blogs was reasonably well-organized and easily understandable due to the examples supporting the clarification of each blog type.

On the other hand, Madhavan (2008) indicates the categorization in presentation slides into 12 types of blogs such as sanity, identity, vanity, humanity, and professional blogs and so on.

However, despite of the more attractive form of classification system Madhavan presented using the visual communication, images, and simpler textual contents, Simon’s taxonomy seemed more informative. Although Simon’s explanation of each type of blogs might look uninteresting, it is more precisely comprehensible.

In addition, blog types can be segregated according to the subject matters, as personal, political, sports blogs and more (Newsbyblog.com, 2011), and to the media types such as vlog, linklog, sketchlog, photolog and so on (Mkartina, 2011).
